>> Biography

Miwa Gardner-Page is part of the MBA/MA Class of 2013 at the Wharton School and the Lauder Institute. Her longstanding commitment to Japan began when she majored in Asian Studies at the University of Texas at Austin and did a year-long exchange in the country. After graduation Miwa relocated to Tokyo to broaden her exposure to Asia and build a career in media. She worked at NHK World (Japan’s national broadcaster) for five years as a weather anchor, radio newsreader and program director. While in the capital, she co-founded a business networking organization, Tokyo Professionals Management Group, and helped forge connections among thousands of people from over 50 countries.

Beyond the classroom, Miwa’s most valuable Wharton experiences have been co-writing a thesis that compares women entrepreneurs in four countries (Egypt, Georgia, Japan and Spain), and, in Japan, leading the Faculty International Seminar and the Wharton Japan Trek. She is also proud of her achievements as an Omnicom Fellow and the Wharton Graduate Association’s Executive Director of Special Events.

Outside of Wharton, Miwa was selected as an Emerging Leader by the U.S.-Japan Council. Her passion for learning about other cultures underpins her joy in meeting people from diverse backgrounds. She looks forward to joining fellow alumni at the Global Alumni Forum this year.
